Dear Diary,
Today I turned twelve years old and we had my bat mitzvah. It was held at our house in the ghetto of Hamburg, Germany.
Almost everyone I knew was there. My grandparents in Poland wanted to come to it, but they couldn’t get in our ghetto,
let alone out of their own ghetto. Julie and Lucy, my best friends, were there as well as several other people from the Jewish
school we attend. As we are very limited in the ghetto everyone came together to help us celebrate. My cousin sung music,
while her dad played the piano. Several mothers got together and helped to decorate and cook. My mom was in charge of making
me a cake and it was so pretty. It was a chocolate cake with pink icing and flowers all around it. She remembered that pink
is my favorite color and everything was pink. I also got some pretty good presents. This diary was one of them. My friend
Julie gave it to me and wrapped it in hot pink.
